Exercise is good for the soul

That's if we have a soul. Anyway, I have tired many different types of exercising over the years from Kickboxing to Bike Riding to Weights and aerobic exercise, tae-bo and aerobics. But by far the best exercise is SKIPPING. Yep, sir I bought a skipping rope online afew days ago (a professional one that boxers use for £4 cheap as chips which is presumably why so many people eat them!) And I kid you not it shows you how un-fit you truly are. I did 12 repetitions and my heart was beating like crazy. I managed about 300 in the end (today and yesterday) and I was pouring in sweat. The next day (today) I noticed that my body was already more toned. And it works every part of your body. I was aching everywhere (a sign of a good workout) I've had a few kickboxing classes where I could hardly walk the next day. So, yeah skipping try it for yourself...

Embarrasing I went to see my dietian yesterday and I was talking through with her what I could and couldn't eat. She weighed me and told me that I've put on a stone (at least) in the last five months. This is due to getting vitamins from food that I previously was missing thanks to coeliac disease (body can't tolerate Gluten) So, lol I was showing her my stomach and my button on my pants was broken. No, I didn't unleash the penis! As if I would! But she did get a good look at my boxers! I pulled my shirt down and continued as if nothing happened. Then I whipped her bra off and rode her like a pony. No, not really. God, I hope she doesn't read this :)

Still waiting for my bloody DVD from a well known online company over two weeks now! Grr, they don't count it as missing until 28 days have passed... fuckers.

If you have red hair, piercings, poss tattoo and dress in rock / indie attire send me a damn e-mail! Shameless I know! And I'm only half joking. Well, I'm off to watch a martial arts flick or scrubs I can't decide. I've spent last night and much of today working on the new forum and inserting the winning competition logo. Well, done Slayer Tom!

http://www.whedonverseforum.proboards.com/

It looks amazing! Because of this I haven't had time to update the main website. Just wanna say RIP Patrick Swayze, what a legend he was in Point Break, Road House and Donnie Darko. Great actor. Very sad; the beast his last TV project was excellent esp towards the end.

Until tomorrow... Vaya con Dios

Derren Brown, the website and more...

Ok, so I'm sure those of you who live in the UK and haven't been living under a rock have heard about magician Derren Brown's lottery stunt. On Wed night he successfully predicted six balls (not the bonus) during the live lottery before they were announced. You can no doubt find the clip on YouTube. For legal reasons (yeah right) he told us that he couldn't show us the prediction before the results. To me this kinda rendered the whole thing void. On Friday he explained to us how he did it. This was an over complicated attempt IMO to make us look gullible. I don't mean it like the way it sounds (I believe the whole experiment was to make people think something that isn't true - how people can be easily led) His explanation was a little dumb, 24 people were in a room and over the last few weeks they've tried to predict the lottery. Then after all of their guesses the results were added up and the average was taken. Or something along those lines. At first they got three balls correct and then four... BUT then we were supposed to believe that on Wed night they got all six correct. I think it's much more likely that Derren used a split screen (one side of the screen is live and the other is pre-recorded) because he himself doesn't believe in psychic ability and he thinks it's mumbo jumbo (which it is) He used a technique where you rest a pen on the paper and sub consciously you let your mind pick a number for you. It's completely ridiculous.

His other feats were more impressive - he told a young man that there was a knife hidden under one of twenty cups and that he wanted him to stamp on them one by one. He offered him 500,000 compensation in case it went wrong. Of course it didn't and there was no knife. But there was a mouse hidden under the plastic cup that he left. The only thing I can think of is that the man was in on it.

Much more impressive was the David Blaine show latter that night. He performed several incredible card tricks and caught a live bullet in his mouth. His street magic is amazing. How do you take a dollar from someone and rub the F off and move it down the note. Or get someone to sign a card and place it in the deck. Then you throw the cards in the air and pick out the one with the signature on it with a dart! Hu? He also told someone to hold and think of any card. He took a match and held it underneath it and it was their card! Unbelievable...

The Website

Ok, I've updated the main page again with a rather impressive new Dollhouse poster. I've added the saucy Buffy comic strip picture and a new babe of the day and guy of the day. I'm thinking about running an annual awards at Christmas (watch this space) and somehow adding twitter to the site. Not easy as it's flash not HTMI. Enjoy your Saturday.

The routine

Stand ups, are they funny? I mean I like Lee Evans (I've grown up with his comedy) but I was watching Alan Carr last night and he barely made me snigger. And yet the audience were in hysterics leading me to believe that I don't have a funny bone. Of course I do, comedy is of course a personal taste. What I find funny is usually character based - sitcoms. Because I find them witty (Frasier) or surreal (Family Guy, Scrubs) or simply because I know these people "in real life" Not the actors but people who are like the characters. However stand up comedy is often cruel and damn right smutty (Roy chubby brown) and I used to like that as a teenager. But now I find it quite boring. I can't think of a single stand up that I like apart from Lee Evans (maybe I just haven't seen enough of them) but without characters the joke falls flat.

My body clock is all over the place (no routine you see) sometimes I'll go to be at 12 or 1 or 2 and then I'll get up at 9 or 10 or 11 and because of this my body doesn't know what the hell is going on. I really need a routine (bed at 11 up at 7 for example) but I'm strangely awake at night and exhausted during the day. When it gets to night time I don't wanna go to bed when "this film is on" or I'm enjoying my DVD's. So, I usually end up staying up too long and regretting it the next day. I've tried to get up early before but what with coeliac I'm tired anyway so a sixteen hour day is difficult and I'll end up napping. I must try though as I really wanna start training again for kickboxing. Yeah, I do it now and again anyway but I'd love to do it everyday.

The website has a new poll, the ultimate Buffy season part 2 and i still want your twitter questions. Is anybody reading this?

Football, the sheep and the slaughter

So, for once I actually have a bit of energy which I've used to do exciting things like washing, bed making (untidying is more fun - any offers?) cleaning and general housey work. Too much! Far far too much...

It's the football tonight. Yep millions of sheep (sorry I mean people) will be watching the game in the hope that England qualify for the World cup. I wouldn't watch it for two reasons 1 Nobody and I do mean nobody deserves to get paid 100,000+ for a weeks work (or one game of football) It is the people who buy the tickets and the merchandise that make this possible. People will say err you go to watch a movie don't you? Well, yes actors and actresses get paid way too much too but BUT they work three months for their money not 1hour and a half. It's disgusting...

And two I would rather watch paint dry. Sorry, if you like it I'm not judging you really just our (sigh) society as a whole. Ok, I am judging you... now go and live vicariously through your heroes.

I watched the pilot of Warehouse 13 last night. It was ok, slightly over-long for the story they were trying to tell. But it has potential and it's JaneE so I gotta give it a chance...

I just bought Best of the best 1 - 4 for £7 DVD's are stupidly cheap now. I love martial arts (as you probably know) I've been waiting for over a week for my Smallville Blu-ray from a well known online music store. They seem to take ages...

I really should get those photos and nitpicks done for the website but I just can't find the time atm. I got Maria Sharapova's autograph from her agent yesterday. She's gorgeous and a great athlete (before you start - tennis players don't get paid anywhere near as much as footballers do and they look much better in a short skirt)

If you're reading this and you have an FAQ question send it to me on the twitter page.

www.twitter.com/whedonverse

and I'll feature it on the main website. Because you're reading this blog I'm gonna give you first dibs! Tomorrow I'll be posting the link on the main website (on the welcome message) so get in there before everyone else does :)

Until tomorrow. Thanks for reading and enjoy the football.

I'm sick and tired of...

...yep you guessed it feeling sick and tired. I am so fed up with coeliac disease at the moment and feeling exhausted when all I wanna do is feel my best. I know I said daily updates (best intentions ect...) but life gets in the way. I will try to update more often. And if you read this blog please leave a message on the guestbook http://www.whedonverse.co.uk/ for all I know I'm talking to myself (what's new?)

Anyway back to my day. I was supposed to go to the dentist (my dad was giving me a lift to the next town) but I was just too damn tired. Or mind blowingly exhausted. So, I asked him to turn the car around and I went back to bed. True story. I phoned the dentist and told them I had flu like symptoms which was pretty close to the truth. Anyway, I've been feeling out of it all day.

Sometimes I think I'm never gonna recover from this thing. My doctors tell me it takes between six months to two years and it's been about 3 months + At the same time I'm still trying to work out what's causing my eczema. I ate a yogurt and I was itching (pectin?) I ate a banana and I was itching. Could be those, or it could be dust, latex or rice. I haven't narrowed it down. I ate orange's and tomato's and I was fine so I can't see the citrus fruit connection. Could be plums or peaches though? Argggghhhhh! Who knows?

"who here watches deal or no deal?" Intern raises hand Dr Cox "get out"

I love scrubs and I've finished the s8 boxset in the last few days. Brilliant. I had to import it as it still hasn't been shown in the UK. E4 get your fucking finger out! Inc was a bonus disc - the castle pilot (great stuff) I'm gonna have to order it and Leverage (Christian is so cool)

I just watched the Buffyverse panel videos (link on whedonverse) from Dragoncon. Funny funny stuff (esp James and Charisma) and Julie Benz is adorable. I told her so on twitter so I'll see if I get a reply. I got a short message from Amber Benson saying that she was looking forward to my tweets (which was cool)

The site is coming along nicely. Hi SJ, thanks for the guestbook message. The forum should have a brand new logo soon (the winner of the competition) and I'm really proud of the hits it's been getting. Vote in the polls! Jewel (or should I say Kaylee) is walking this one again!

The advertising is making nothing but hey I don't do this for the money. Just the love of Joss' work. Until tomorrow... take care and be excellent to each other. Snooch. Two movie references in one...

It's been a few days...

I've been fairly busy updating the website over the last few days. If you've visited Whedonverse then you'll know what I mean. You'd be forgiven for thinking you've been on a crazy roller-coaster ride!

The pictures and headings have been in several different fonts and scattered all over the place. And don't get me started on the logo! I apologise for all of the changes but I've finally found the right look! Phew... I love it and I hope you like it too!

I got a twitter message from the gorgeous Jewel Staite (Kaylee on Firefly) today. I told her that she won this weeks poll (Who do you want to see the most on Dollhouse?) She replied "Yay! Does Joss Boss know?" I told her that I'm working on that! I intend to write to Joss' agent and ask him if he would like to make Whedonverse an official Joss Whedon fan site. Fingers crossed :)

It's the Big Brother finale in the UK tomorrow. It's been really disapointing lately. All the big characters have gone. I want Siavash to win (he was great at the start until the Norin thing) I think after that he's been trying to impress the public (and failing) with his fair play nomination tactics. Sites are reporting that Sophie and Siavash are favourite to win. I wouldn't mind it if Sophie won (she doesn't think she's going to) but she has lousy taste in Men (Kris)

I watched Goodfellas today - great movie. I've been watching random Buffy episodes. The Freshman, Hush, Chosen... all the best episodes. I've been watching Dr Horrible way too much and listening to the musical commentary. I had better then Neil and Nobodies Asian in the movies stuck in my head for days! I've also been watching WWE, Chuck, True Blood, Knight Rider (new) Smallville, Frasier, Lost and Battlestar (new)

Leave a comment on the guestbook and feel free to start a new discussion on the Bronze!

Until tomorrow... I'm still cookie dough...

Season 8

Mood - good and awake! Food - cereal and coffee Music - none

Site updates - I added a quote of the day game (check it out!) and a new video of the week. There's a new poll and the nitpicks and goofs section has been updated. News updates too. Phew!

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR ISSUES 23 - 25 and issues 1 - 22

Ok, so I was catching up on my Buffy season 8 comic reading yesterday (I was six issues behind - I'm now three issues behind which i'm ordering today) The problem is if I get the comics on subscription they charge your stupid postage charges for each comic so it ends up being too expensive. If I order in bulk I get a discount. The last three comics were about Buffy and Andrew taking a road trip together, Giles and Faith discovering why vamps won't attack a town full of Slayers (not what you think!) and Dawn stuck inside a porcelain doll.

I have to say that I enjoyed the Faith issue best by Jim Krueger and Cliff Richards with executive producer Joss Whedon. Special mention to the incredible cover art by Jo Chen on all three covers. What a great artist she is - the characters literally come to life on the page.

George Jeanty is a superb comic book artist too. He does most of the inside work. I'm not really a comic book fan (I have a few rare issues here and there but I don't read any comic book regularly (I'm no Sheldon!) apart from Buffy and Angel after the fall - which I'm so far behind on!)

I like the idea behind season 8. People like vampires and have taken a strong dislike to Slayers. Not so far-fetched (people love Twilight and True Blood at the moment and people have fallen in love with Spike and Angel in the past! So yeah, it's a believable storyline. The one shot Harmony comic which explained all this was excellent. One of my favourite episodes in the season so far.

I'm not so sure about the Dawn storyline. She sleeps with a boy and blows him off (not literally oh the image!) for his best mate and then he casts a spell on her which turns her into a giant, some form of horse and then a porcelain doll. Why not just turn her into one thing? Are the writers making this up as they go along? How did she end up in the doll makers possession? Was that part of the spell or did he find her somewhere? Either way our little Dawnie is all grown up!

I like it that the same writers are working on the comics as the television series. I can't wait for Steven DeKnights turn! And I've heard that Oz is in the next issue - very exciting. I enjoyed the Buffy / Fray crossover - something that is easier done in the world of comics then on TV. But imagine how good that would be as a film?

I'd like to stick my two pence in about Buffy sleeping with a young slayer girl. Erm..I know the writers have had lots of negative feedback and I'm afraid I'm gonna add my support to that pile of mail. Buffy is straight! She's always been straight! She has never shown any inclination that she might be gay. She has openly been disgusted by the thought on the television series. I have nothing against gay people but Buffy is not gay. To me it just seems like cheap sensationalism and I guess it did what it was supposed to. Because everyone won't shut up about it! On the other hand I am a guy and the image was very well drawn. I just could have lived without it.

Xander! Xander has nothing to do AGAIN. Please give him something to do and I really really wanna see some hints dropped that he could...that he might end up with Buffy. I've seen loads of letters asking for the same thing at the back of the darkhorse comic book. hell, even Scott the editor said he'd love to see it. Xander deserves a break and an hour of love making with the Buffster! Who's with me?

Writers block

Mood awake now (exhausted earlier - I even had a nap) Food - salad, camomile tea Music - none. Website updates. I've added a new Whedonverse database page which tells us who has a myspace, an official site and who does the "twitter thing"

Speaking of twitter I've had an account for a while now but I've largely ignored it. Isn't it just a facebook status? A fast service for lazy people? Anyway you can find me on the main page http://www.whedonverse.co.uk/ (look for the twitter logo)

Hm...I'm trying to think about what to write today. Seems like I have a slight case of writers block. Anyway, I'll stumble on. The website is still doing great (over 3500 views now) excellent stuff although the traffic has slowed down now we're no longer on the main Whedonesque page...

It's chuck tonight! And in 3D no less. I got my glasses with last weeks TV and Satalite week and I'm ready to watch all the gorgeous women jump out of my television. Speaking of Chuck I loved last weeks Christmas episode with the Die Hard references. Twinky anyone?

I got many of the Summerslam predictions wrong. Orton is still champ but Punk did win back the title and the Undertaker returned. Raw annoyed me last night, why are WWE paying Floyd Jr so much money to stand around and do nothing? The Big Show would tear him apart in real life.

I'm a member of the Amazon vine programme and I'm currently reviewing a DVD for them called Ichi. A martial arts epic. I'm half way through the film...

If you know of any REAL Whedonverse websites please let me know. I can't remember the amount of people who tell me that Sarah Michelle Gellar has a myspace page when she quite clearly doesn't.

I'm thinking of running a competition to design a myspage page for Whedonverse. Our old one seriously needs an update.

Until tomorrow... I'm off to think naughty thoughts about Anna Paquin (gotta love True Blood)

Comments on Whedonesque

Mood extremley tired. Food - Stew Music - none Site updates - none as yet

http://www.whedonverse.co.uk/

As i said in my previous blog I am grateful to the person that posted a message on Whedonesque. I wondered where all the traffic was coming from for such a new website that has no advertising (still waiting for the site to be submitted to google and yahoo) I actually thought it was because I'd posted a comment on some of the stars myspace pages earlier in the day. 2600+ views since yesterday isn't too shabby. I also received an e-mail from Juliet Landau's producer asking me to submit her details onto the site. Over-whelmed at that point.

Anyway, I don't have a Whedonesque account so I thought I'd address some of those comments on here. Surprisingly most of them were positive and quite helpful.

1 There's too much red on the site - after taking this into consideration I agree with this person and so I have replaced the red text with a more subtle white.

2 I don't like the comic sans font. Actually, I do (obviously or I wouldn't have chosen it) Joss' work is very comic bookish and as we know he has delved into the world of comics on more then one occasion. The look and feel of the site is supposed to resemble a "giant comic book"

However if more then three people complain and I discover that "the majority" don't like this layout then of course I will consider changing it. BUT in the last day many more people have joined the site and the sister forum then the people who have left comments.

3 It's slow because of the coding on the first page. Really? I don't have the fastest broadband connection in the world and it works fine for me. In fact on more then one occasion sites like myspace and facebook have crashed and my computer has become unresponsive. So, far touch wood this hasn't happened on Whedonverse.

4 The Gallery. I much prefer this type of gallery as it lets me look for the picture I want to see and open it! Without having to trawl through a million photos with an arrow key. And this is the only layout that the service provider I use provides... so there's not much I can do about it even if I wanted to.

Thanks for visiting. Back to my regular blog tomorrow.

I just wanted to say thank you to the person that posted the fan site address on Whedonesque. I am not a member of Whedonesque and it was very much appreciated. Good Night

Martial arts and me. Summerslam and Allergies update.

Mood: Ok Food - Bacon and tomato sandwich Music - none

http://www.whedonverse.co.uk/ Site updates - news section updated. Photo shoot pictures added. New Dollhouse season 2 promo pics and poster.

Thanks to everyone that has visited Whedonverse so far... four hundred views in four days is really good for such a new site. Esp as it hasn't been added to the major search engines yet. Tell your friends...

Before I get onto today's topic which is martial arts and me. Here's an allergy update and my Summerslam predictions (live tonight on sky box office at 1am)

Allergies

I keep a food diary and atm I'm trying to determine what foods are making my eczema bad. Easier said then done! As allergies go hand in hand with eczema. For the last few days I've avoided fruit and specifically citrus fruit. Yesterday I tried pineapple and I seem to be OK with that. Today I'm trying tomato (it came back positive on my test but so did every fruit) The problem with trial and error is that it isn't very accurate but the doctors tell me that neither are blood tests. Which is why they rely on both for a proper reading. So, my skin is fairly clear at the moment on my body and I'm gonna see if there's a reaction from now until tomorrow morning. Why should they be? Well tomato and fruits are linked to latex allergy which I definitely have. Many health care professionals develop this and it's especially common in people with eczema. The reason these fruits are linked to latex is because the plant shares something in common with latex. Cross breeding I believe. It sucks but hey trial and error is my only option...

Summerslam

One of the big four WWE ppv's of the year. I'm not very excited about summerslam but I've paid for it anyway like it's my duty or something. One match stands out and that's C M Punk vs Jeff Hardy TLC (Tables, Ladders and Chairs) for the WWE Title. The rest is well a bit meh. I mean does anyone really want to see Kane vs Khali erm... no they don't. Anyway here's my predictions.

TLC - this all depends on whether Jeff is leaving or not and I think he is. So PUNK for the win with or without MATT HARDY'S assistance. Matt could go either way - help or hinder his brother. Leading to a PUNK vs MATT feud or a friendship between the two. I expect Jeff to get seriously injured if he's leaving (storyline)

CENA should beat Orton as he hasn't held the title for a long time. CHRISTIAN will hopefully retain although I like WILLIAM REGAL too.

Show and Jericho vs Cryme Tyme. I don't rate Cryme Tyme at all. They're competent wrestlers but I hate their gimmick. So, I'm looking for the much improved BIG SHOW and WWE'S BEST WRESTLER CHRIS JERICHO to beat the hell out of them tonight.

KHALI vs Kane - who cares but Khali.

DX vs LEGACY - I expect HHH and HBK to lose to Legacy tonight because then it looks like they're elavating talent instead of burying it. Shame they're elevating the wrong talent. Dibiase and Rhodes have no charisma. Expect penis jokes...

Rey vs DOLPH. I think Dolph needs the win. Rey doesn't need the title

SWAGGER vs mvp - my new favourite wrestler swagger should get the win and become the new US CHAMP.

Those are the main matches. To be honest many of the results could go either way which I like. I can't think of another match atm but I expect THE UNDERTAKER to make his return tonight. So that should be exciting...

MARTIAL ARTS AND ME

Old school photo from a few years ago. Taken by one of my friends Tara who sadly I've lost contact with.

"If I tell you I'm the best then you think I'm boasting, however if I tell you I'm no good then you know I'm lying. I can honestly say that I fear no opponent in front of me" Bruce Lee

"Be water my friend" Bruce Lee

I love martial arts. I can't really explain why it's just something that's fascinated me since I was around thirteen years old. My sister came home with her then boyfriend and he was showing me a few moves. Shaking the foundations of the house with a kick to the ground and introducing me to the delights of no retreat no surrender, I was hooked. It wouldn't be for another eight years that I would take my first martial arts class with a few friends of mine. Not to brag but we were naturals. People asked us where we'd trained before and we hadn't. Through out the years I went back to my club on and off (mostly off it makes it hard to train with eczema - you sweat ect...) but I usually train at home. I've learnt the moves, I've seen the movies, I do tae-bo (Billy Blanks fitness tapes - martial arts and dance) almost everyday. I've studied the books and I have a punch bag and floor bag in the garage. I am very flexible... but I'm still trying to achieve the splits.

The top four martial artists (in no order)

1 Bruce Lee
2 Jackie Chan
3 Tony Jaa
4 Jet Li

I was lucky enough to write to and receive Jackie Chan's autograph from Hong Kong recently. I've written to Zhang Ziyi too (she's so beautiful) I would love to go back to my class someday but at the moment my skin is up and down so I can't. It's annoying but hey, that's life.

I watched Enter the dragon last night. And as much as I love Bruce Lee I think this movie has been surpassed by the extremely violent and entertaining Ong-Bak and Warrior King. The martial arts in these two Tony Jaa movies is extraordinary. Acrobatic, flexible, lightning fast and unbelievably talented Jaa is this generations Lee. Don't get me wrong I'm still amazed by Bruce's speed and power and they'll never be anyone like him again but Jaa is nipping at his heels...

I'm off to do some training. Take care and visit again tomorrow. Ying yang.

About me / Dollhouse

Hello, fellow Whedon fans. Mood: Good and awake Food - cereal and coffee Music - none

http://www.whedonverse.co.uk/ Well, it's the fifth day of my blog and the fifth day of the website. How quickly time flies. I plan to talk about two subjects today myself (oh what fun) and Joss' latest (but certainly not greatest) Dollhouse.

ABOUT ME (here's ten things that you may or may not know about me)

1 I am a huge wrestling fan (I'll leave my Summerslam predictions tomorrow) Yes it's choreographed but it's also a lot of fun and it can be as dangerous as any sport (if not more so)
2 My favourite films (it's a tie) are Donnie Darko (I've seen it way too many times and I'm in love with Gretchen) and Serenity (Joss Whedon's space western)
3 I hate onions but I like pickled onions and onion rings. Regular onions make me gip
4 I've broken my arm, my wrist twice and my other wrist once.
5 I love thunder and lightning and rainy days. Yep, I'm weird like that.
6 My favourite kind of movies are comic book adaptions
7 I'm agnostic
8 I am a loner. I spend a great deal of time on my own. Seriously, people start to annoy me after a little while. I will spend time with them but usually on my own terms
9 I have my lip and my ears pierced.
10 I don't have a posh accent (not very many people from the UK do)

That was difficult. Have you ever tried to think about yourself? it's harder then you think.

Here's a few more:

1 My favourite show as a child was ALF and I had the ALF puppet (still do)
2 My favourite show as a teenager was Quantum Leap
3 My favourite show as a young adult was Buffy
4 My favourite show now is - (Hmm...I like a few True Blood, Smallville, Sons of Anarchy, Chuck and Supernatural)
5 My all time favourite show is Frasier or Buffy

DOLLHOUSE

So, Joss' latest arrived with enough hype to make a blockbuster summer movie profitable (in the extremes) and yet somehow it only averaged between three and four million viewers on a big network like Fox. The signs weren't good from the beginning. Fox moved the show from a coveted position after American Idol to the Friday night death slot. When most of the targeted audience would presumably be out getting drunk. They also asked for a pilot re-shoot for un-known reasons which apparently Joss was on-board with (what choice did he have?) So, it arrived earlier this year with as much anticipation as anything could possible have...from Joss' loyal fans. And that's the problem! Can the series reach out to a wider audience later this year or will it end up just another cancelled network television show? Only time will tell...

Credit to Fox for re-newing the series in the first place. Apparently it was between this and Terminator SCC and I'm glad that Dollhouse got a second chance. The Fox president said one of the reasons for the renewal was they didn't want a million e-mails from joss' fans the next day if they cancelled it. But if the ratings don't improve what choice will they have?

The problem with Dollhouse is it's not very good. Ok, it's watchable but it's certainly the weakest (so far...) of all Joss' shows. Why? Well, for several reasons. The doll of the week episode is as bad as creature of the week (think early Smallville) It's hard to get to know Caroline or Echo is she's constantly someone else. Topher is extremely annoying (I have no doubt that this isn't the actors fault and he seemed overwhelmed by the fan support at comicon) the character is an example of how you shouldn't create a geek stereo-type. Want a good example? Xander Harris.
The story lines for the first few episodes were ok but hardly ground breaking or essential viewing.

The cast are all very good especially the guy who plays Victor. He handles the transition from one character to another with ease and he's a superb actor. Yep, there's far too much talent on display for this not to be better then it is.

The fans look to episode six for a major improvement (the time the network left them alone to make the show how they wanted) but it still didn't live up to the hype. The last episode was as good as any of Joss' work. Epitaph one is a fantastic hour of television but with the announcement that they're going back to the old set up next year (with only occasional flashes to the future) it might be more of the same. The last episode could have been a complete re-boot - a group of misfits trying to survive their horrific future (it sounds like a much better show to me) but hey it's not all bad.

This is what I liked about the first season.

1 Eliza. She makes a captivating lead.
2 Alpha. Alan Turdock is fantastic.
3 The characters are all pretty good (if they could just tone Topher down)
4 The last episode was great
5 Felicia Day! Amy Acker!
6 The cult episode was very good. Spy in the house of love was excellent too.
7 The show got better as it went along
8 The clever doll programming (there are three flowers in a vase...)

I just hope Joss writes more episodes this year. I hope that Alexis can bring something good to the table (I'm sure he will!) and I hope that Victor has a bigger role. Lets find out more about the characters pasts and who they really are! So that we care about what happens to them. Bring back the Spy! He was one of the best characters. I'm sorry but I'm really bad with names.

But not these names. I hope we see Summer Glau and someone hire James Marsters!

I'm still gonna buy the first season blu-ray because I want to re-watch it. I also want the extras (the unaired pilot and the commentaries) At the end of the day I usually buy anything that Joss has made or been involved with so it continues... but I just wish Dollhouse had lived up to the hype.

Ezcema and the real world. The Guild and the geek.

Photo taken 5 min's ago. This photo is deceiving as I have eczema on my face and my ear pierced twice. But for some strange reason the light has blocked it out.

It never rains but it pours isn't that the saying? Well, it's fucking raining today!

Mood Good but tired. Food - cereal and coffee Music - bowling for soup

Hi there I've been trying to think of what to say today. Obviously I wanna talk about my Eczema but I'll get to that in a minute. I've become a little obsessed with the Guild over the last two days (watch on whedonverse) and more importantly Felicia Day. I don't mean that in a scary "I want you to have my babies" sort of way. Just a casual crush. She's a very pretty lady. So, anyway I watched the entire first season and I'm impressed. It always amazes me when someone comes along and makes money out of nothing but an idea. Like Kevin Smith with Clerks or Vince McMahon risking everything with Wrestlemania 1. Of course these are the success stories. I'm sure there are many failures too. Youtube and the Internet has helped inspiring actors and writers all over the world. I write scripts myself and I know how hard it is to get an agent (nobody wants to take a chance on a new writer) I've had great feedback in the past from the BBC and several other networks and production companies but it's a struggle. If I wasn't so self conscious and shy I'd do what Felicia did and write a web based show. My hat is off to her... and my pants OK I'll stop now.

Eczema is an annoying skin disease. In many ways it ruins your life and the lives of the people around you. It's difficult to work with chapped and cut hands. My skin is constantly dry, red and inflamed. And it wouldn't be so bad if it was just on my body but my face is usually the worst. I had acne too (I went for laser treatment) which has left me with some pock marks on my face. OK they're small but still bother me. My skin is thin because of all the steroid creams I've used over the years and it lines easily. Lots of dry cream but It seems to clog my pours and make me itch. Which leads to infection, weeping yellow skin and a vicious cycle. Get it better, it gets bad again within a day or two and so on. Using creams that damage the skin to make it better otherwise it's the hospital. And I've been there plenty of times as a child and a teenager. I have managed to touch wood (why do we say that? Someone just made it up) stay out of there in recent years but it's hard to control. It's also hard to date. You don't wanna tell someone you've got eczema in case they think they can catch it (which you can't by the way) and it's not very nice looking at someone with a face full of cuts. Maybe I'm making it sound worse then it is, don't get me wrong there's been some bad times. I once went in hospital with no skin on my face and there was this other time when all my eyes and skin were stuck together. They gave me antiseptic baths to get it better and it did within seven days. I know there's other people in this world that have it worse (people that are blind or death or both. People who can't even speak or communicate properly) but eczema is a nightmare.

Allergies.

The great thing about eczema is that you get lots of allergies along with it. Yeah as a child it was grass, pollen and dust. As a teenager it was dairy products and eggs and as an adult well it's complicated. I am allergic to latex which means I'm properly allergic to cross contamination plants like Tomato and Grapefruit. I seem to be having a bad reaction with fruit lately. I was tested and my doctor said you're allergic to all fruits to some degree. So, it's trial and error from here. I had skin prick tests two weeks ago and they showed that I'm allergic to sea food which goes hand in hand with eczema. Other fish was OK and I am fine with nuts. Lol reminds me of a Frasier joke "did I mention nuts?" "oh, I think that's implied" it certainly feels that way sometimes. I keep a food diary but it's hard to find out what's causing the eczema when it could be anything. Add coeliac disease, asthma and a dose of OCD to this and I'm a walking hypochondriac . Prone to panic attacks and not very good in social situations. It's a shame as I used to be the life and soul of the party but my health is a bitch.

It's not all bad I have my friends (inc you) my family, my music, my computer, my television shows and my kick arse movie collection. I'm a great writer (not to blow my own trumpet) I can be funny, romantic and caring and I've collected some really nice autographs over the years.

Yep, I have more then most but I'm no Zach Effron...

I hate that guy.

Parents and individuality....

Mood. Bad and tired. Music Rihanna (what? She's hot) Food. Erm...none but lots of caffiene

Website: nothing to report http://www.whedonverse.co.uk/

GRR... frack frack frack (I think my no swearing record is about to be broken)

My mother had an operation on her bunion yesterday and I've just come back from the hospital with my dad. He was being such a twat, making snide comments at my expense and having a go at the way people on the road were driving. He couldn't understand why anybody would want to listen to music instead of listening to the cricket on the radio. I'm not a fan of sport apart from WWE (it's Summerslam on Sunday!) the occasional boxing match, extreme sports and Wimbledon every year. That sounds a lot but my dad watches Sport every day. It doesn't matter what it is - he watches it.

He's been in a stupid fucking mood all day. Don't get me wrong I love my dad but he drives me crazy half of the time. The old saying is true...you can't choose your family but you can choose your friends. I can understand where he's coming from as my mum will need massive attention during the next three months but still... when I'm in a mood I don't take it out on everyone around me. He does that's the difference. Hey, I think this blog might be quite therapeutic... if you have one follow me and I'll leave you a comment or two...

Am I an individual?

Well, are you? Is anyone? I like to think I am but the truth is there are thousands if not millions of other people that dress and hold the same beliefs that I do. There are many people that have a passion for piercings and those same people probably listen to alternative music. But do they like martial arts, meditation and camomile tea? What about Earl Grey?

Do those same people love the Whedonverse? WWE? Comic book films and television series? Do they have coeliac disease, eczema and asthma? Are they agnostic? Do they collect autographs?

Hm...maybe. Individuality is over-rated anyway.

Religion and my own beliefs

So, It’s a brand new day and the sun is high. All the birds are singing that you’re gonna die. How I hesitated now I wonder why. It’s a brand new day. Mood in-between ok and moody. Listening to Lifehouse no name face. Food Tuna Sandwich and mayonnaise, camomile tea.

Website updates. I bought a domain name and extra webspace. The site can now be found at http://www.whedonverse.co.uk/

I updated the advert section and added some new pages inc you know you're obsessed with Buffy when... I also submitted the site to several search engines inc Google and Yahoo.

Last night I caught up on my TV shows (Reaper - why did they cancel it?) Sock is great and a religious documentary called why do you believe in God? It was unbelievable how many people have been brainwashed in this world. Talk about deluded. People of several different faiths held a discussion as to why they believe in God. The strange thing is that they all believe that their god is the real God. How many Gods are there? Budists acually believe that they will be reborn as something else. A person, an animal ect.. depending on their Karma level. Really? So, what happens if in the next life you find yourself in the body of a non-believer?

Religion is the cause of all the recent wars in the world. People in Kenya refuse contraception and have about nine kids each because of the catholic faith. Aids is rampant in the world because people won't use condoms and other birth control because of religion. People let their loved ones die because they don't believe in western medicine. Religion may bring people together in one faith but it puts people of different faiths against each other. Suicide bombers believe that God wants them to kill innocent people because they have been brainwashed from knee high. Religious mothers and fathers teach their kids religion from a young age because when they are old enough to decide for themselves they would most likely reject the idea of a supernatural being.

Do you still believe in Santa Claus? Of course not because all the evidence tells you that a man dressed in red and white doesn't climb down your chimney every 24th December. So, what does the evidence say about God? Well, for one thing the world is far older then 10,000 years old. It's approx six billion years old. How do we know this? Through fossils and DNA. Do you know that scientists can prove that Evolution happened now? It's no longer a theory it happened. We came from Monkey's put that in your pipe and smoke it. Well, actually don't as that's bad for you. The bible is full of contradictions, it's full of fairy tales like Samson lost his strength when he cut his hair. And yet some people take it literally. Many religious people pick and choose what they want to believe from it. They dismiss the condemnation of homophobia and the terrible acts in Gods name. They dismiss the old teachings and embrace the new testament. Why is that anymore accurate and how do you know?

There could be a God. There I said it! It's not very likely but there could be. A God who was involved with Evolution but Evolution doesn't need a God. It could have happened all on it's own. Religious people look to our morals as proof of a higher being. This doesn't proof anything. We get our morals from many places, our families, our friends, television, books and music. We get them because they are in-bred in us as part of Evolution. Think about a dog who tries to bury his bone. Why does he do this? He's never been in the wild! But his ancestors have. The brain remembers. And that's how we get our morals. Because a long time ago we were in small groups (most likely monkeys) and they had to watch each others backs. They cared for each other, cleaned each others fur and helped watch out for predators. This is why we still care about our fellow man. Well, some of us do.

So, what are my own beliefs? While I can't dismiss a God completely I can dismiss the bible as a work of fiction. The same thing goes for all the other organised religions out there. The goofiest being Scientology. A relatively new faith endorsed by Tom Cruise of all people. It just shows you how easily a religion can pop up (or be made up) out of nowhere. In a few hundred years will people believe that Scientology is gospel? Isn't it funny that if you challenge a religious belief then the believer attacks you or in some cases becomes violent. Is this how God would want you to act? The question your not supposed to ask religious people is "who created God?" presumably because there's no logical answer. If we could travel at light speed it would still take us two million years to reach the next Galaxy. Imagine how vast the universe is? And there simply has to be more life out there. And yet one supernatural being listens to all of our prayers. Really? Where was he / she when the Holocaust was happening? Oh, I see we have free will. Please. The truth is religion causes more problems then it's worth.

Do you still need an imaginary friend to help you through the day?

Leave a comment. I'd love to hear from you.

Welcome to my life part one (Coeliac, Asthma and Buffy)

Photo taken in New York October 2007

Music Evanescence. Mood. Tired and a bit moody. Food. Ham and Pineapple Pizza

Updates on the website. I've added this blog, updated the news section and added some new photos.

Welcome to my blog peeps and thanks for visiting. This blog will be about my daily trials and tribulations. It will contain my thoughts on the day and this website. My intention is to not pull any punches on this blog (about the way that I am feeling) Some times you will like what I have to say and other times you'll probably be screaming at your computer. But hell, if we all agreed on everything we'd be robots. Which I am anyway a lot of the time...

So, who am I? Well, my name is Steven and I live in a little town called Wibsey in West Yorkshire. I was born with Eczema and Asthma (well at least that's the technical term) I actually developed Asthma when I was around three years old. My father had both and grew out of them. Although recently he quit smoking and the asthma came back. Touch wood my asthma is much better. As a child I was in and out of hospital and I had a machine at home for bad attacks. I haven't taken my inhalers in many months (I just stopped taking them to see if I could) But I do take a Ventolin inhaler if I need it. I have bad eczema but I'll discuss that at a later date (I bet you're excited... lol) I adore all things "Whedon" esp Buffy but more on that in a minute...

COELIAC

Recently I was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease. It's an auto immune disease that robs your body of it's vitamins and minerals due to your bodies intolerance of Gluten. Gluten is a protein, the sticky substance found in wheat, barley and rye. OK, on the surface that doesn't sound too bad does it? Well, think again. Wheat is in almost everything inc bread (obviously) I am not allowed to eat any of these products as they destroy my stomach lining. So, I eat substitutes which I get on prescription. The bread I get is called Shar and it tastes just like normal bread but it's made out of rice mainly. Barley is in beer and larger. So, I hardly ever drink and if I did it would have to be cider or horrible gluten free beer. My doctors tell me that it will take between six months to two years for my stomach to heal and that I can never eat gluten again. I felt ill for five years plus and I kept telling my doctors to no avail. So, eventually a kind nurse recommended that I be tested for Coeliac disease. The results came back positive but they had to be confirmed with a biopsy. What happens is a camera is placed into your throat and threaded around your intestines to your stomach so that they can see how your stomach is. My lining was almost flat when in a normal person it would be raised. I still feel achy and tired, I need to lie down often in the day and exercise to gain a little bit of energy. I'm taking iron tablets as my iron is very low due to coeliac. I feel exhausted alot of the time and because of this I'm at home alot. Hence this website which is a nice distraction.

BUFFY

Well, seen as I have all of these problems (and trust me we've barely scratched the surface) I (like a lot of you) look for inspiration in something. This inspiration is "the Whedonverse" I love Buffy and I want a Buffybot (there I said it) Yep, Joss knows how to appeal to the geek in all of us. I'm a little obsessed with Buffy and I have been since 1998 when season two aired for the first time. I remember watching the pilot and it didn't really grip me. Sure, I thought it was ok but it didn't kick start my obsession. It was so long a go that I can't remember which episode did but it was season 2 and during the BBC2 airings. Buffy means alot to me because when ever I was feeling down I could put an episode on and feel better. I would feel what the characters were feeling and going through the same problems. Buffy may be about demons and monsters but it's the closest thing to reality (in terms of characters) that I've ever seen on television.

I remember reading about a girl that started learning martial arts because of Buffy. A good female friend of mine did too and she loved Angel. But anyway back to the girl, she was attacked in the street and she fought the mugger off. Down to Buffy. I myself have studied kickboxing and tae-bo for many years because of Buffy. I have started writing scripts and I've wanted to be a serious scriptwriter for many years now due to Joss Whedon's writing (his commentaries are excellent) Buffy continues to influence my life through DVD showings and the new season 8 comics.

Tomorrow. Eczema and the real world.
